Smash! Chapter 2

Chapter 2

Kirby was doing what he did best. Eating. Whenever he ate normal food, he tried to actually chew so that he could savor it, but sometimes he didn’t have time, so he would just inhale it and swallow. Thankfully, he wasn’t doing anything, so the chocolate bar that he was eating was being eaten bite by bite. Kirby didn’t know how things could get better.

Kirby was suddenly in the shade. He didn’t notice at first since his eyes were closed as he enjoyed his chocolate. Kirby looked up and nearly jumped out of his skin. The Halberd was flying overhead. Kirby distinctly remembered destroying it in the sea. Obviously Meta Knight had been busy.

Kirby jumped up, inhaling the rest of his food, and ran for the nearest warp star. Dreamland was littered with the things, so Kirby never had to go far. Depending on whatever Dedede or whoever was up to, the local creatures would sometimes try and hamper Kirby in his progress, but today they scattered when they saw him coming as they didn’t want to be his next snack. That just meant that Meta Knight hadn’t got to them to tell them to attack him yet, and hopefully wouldn’t get the chance.

There was always the chance that Meta Knight wasn’t doing something devious. Ever since Kirby sank the Halberd Meta Knight had helped Kirby out with Dreamlands other problems, though that helping usually meant challenging Kirby to a duel to make sure that he was up to the challenge. Kirby still wasn’t sure what Meta Knights true intentions were, but he intended to find out.

Kirby got to the warp star without problem and hopped on. It sped towards the Halberd and crash-landed on the deck, making everyone on it jump in surprise. Instead of trying to fight him, they all ran off, shouting things like “Not again!” and “But we just fixed it!”

“I can’t say that I’m surprised to see you heroically show up Kirby,” Meta Knight said jumping down and landing next to Kirby. “After all, last time I piloted this ship, I didn’t exactly have the best of intentions.”

Kirby relaxed his stance, but stayed alert. “Kirby, I am not going to try anything this time, I was just travelling to meet with Dedede.”

Kirby glared at Meta Knight. “Ok, I admit, that doesn’t really help my case, but since Dedede at least claims to be the King, I felt that this issue needs to be discussed with him,” Meta Knight said.

Kirby gave a questioning look. “Do you not feel it Kirby? There is something wrong with the air, it feels like there is a charge in it, and not a good one,” Meta Knight said.

Kirby hadn’t noticed anything of the sort. He opened his mouth to taste the air, and everyone near scattered in fear except Meta Knight. Kirby inhaled a little, not so much that anyone else would get sucked in, though he was tempted to. Meta Knight was right, the air tasted funny. Kirby looked at him and nodded.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Not long later, the Halberd arrived at Mount Dedede. Dedede was waiting outside his castle, his mouth agape. The Halberd landed and Kirby and Meta Knight jumped out. Dedede didn’t know whether to run or greet them. He hadn’t done anything wrong lately, at least nothing that really stood out in his mind.
“Close your mouth, we’re not here to cause trouble, I am with Kirby after all,” Meta Knight said. “That is, unless you feel guilty.”
Dedede frowned at Meta Knight and puffed out his chest. “Yes yes, you’re the king, we get it, Kirby and I need to talk to you,” Meta Knight said.
Dedede folded his arms and looked at Meta Knight expectantly. “Kirby and I have noticed something wrong with the air, have you not noticed it yet?”
Dedede hadn’t noticed it, but he wasn’t about to admit that. Dedede put on his serious face, and let Kirby and Meta Knight into his castle, allowing them to go in before him. Once they were in, he tasted the air and found that there was indeed something wrong with it. Dedede hurriedly followed.
Meta Knight was about to speak again when there was a horrible crashing sound. It almost sounded like glass breaking. The strangest thing was that they could feel the crash more than hear it. The three of them ran outside to see what the matter was and saw a huge hole in the sky, just above the Halberd. The hole was sucking everything in sight into it, and that included the Halberd.
“My ship!” Meta Knight cried as he flew towards it. But as he got closer to it, he realized that he was caught in the powerful vacuum that the hole was creating. He tried to turn but was unable to change direction and was sucked into the hole along with his ship.
Kirby wanted to jump in and save Meta Knight, but Dedede held him back. Kirby struggled against Dedede’s grasp, but Dedede picked Kirby up and ran the other way. Kirby continued to struggle, turning back to look at the devastation that the hole was causing. He needed to stop it! Kirby glared at Dedede and kicked him. Dedede dropped Kirby and Kirby ran for the hole, but he didn’t know what to do about it. Kirby did the only thing he could think of, and started inhaling as strong as he could in the direction of the hole.
The air in between Kirby and the hole was being pulled in opposite directions. This created a vacuum in the area in between Kirby and the hole and stopped the hole from pulling anyone else in. Dedede finally caught up to Kirby, but he didn’t know what do to. He could see that this was only going to delay the inevitable. Kirby couldn’t inhale forever.
As he was thinking this, Kirby faltered. The hole gained the advantage and Kirby found him self being sucked in. Dedede grabbed him again, but it was no use, as he started getting sucked in as well. If Kirby was going to be sucked into this hole, he was going to go in fighting! Kirby kicked off of Dedede and went in headfirst, while Dedede tumbled in after him.
Smash! The Never Ending Brawl
So I've started a fanfic. Since fanfics never have a chance to be published its perfectly okay to post them here.
Smash! The Never Ending Brawl
Part 1
Chapter 1
The goomba couldn’t believe his luck. A had found a note detailing the plans for Mario and Luigi’s vacation away from the castle. It would be undefended, not counting the toads, but they’re all cowards anyway. He would get a promotion if he brought the princess to Bowser, he just knew he would.
The goomba was sneaking up to the castle through some tall grass. There she was, just sitting out in the open. It looked like she was waiting for something. It didn’t matter, as she was never going to get what she was waiting for. There were no plumbers or toads in sight, now was his chance. He charged and headed right for the princess.
The princess didn’t look surprised to see him. That was understandable, given the amount of times she’d been kidnapped. He was close enough now; no one was going to stop him. Suddenly, from nowhere, the princess pulled out a golf club and made as if to swing. This couldn’t end well.
Thwack!
“Good-a job Princess,” Mario said, coming out from his hiding place. “I knew you could-a do it.”
“That wasn’t so bad, but do you think it would be enough to stop Bowser?” Peach asked.
“Perhaps not stop him, but delay him until I get there. Wow, you really hit that guy far,” Mario said.
The last time Mario had saved Peach, Peach had requested that Mario teach her how to defend herself. Both of them were tired of her being kidnapped and him going off to rescue her. Mario thought that this was a great idea, even if he didn’t think that Peach was one who would enjoy the fighting. Peach had a custom dress made for her that would hide a frying pan, a gold club, and a tennis racket inside. Mario was surprised to find that Peach could float for a short time, both with her parasol and without. She also had suggested that her crown would make a good weapon if the situation got dire.
“I didn’t think that any of Bowser’s minions would fall for that note,” Peach said. “They aren’t very smart are they?”
“Not-a at all,” Mario said. “Most of them just mindlessly walk in one direction until they bump into something. Once I just took a step to the side and the thing cursed me as it walked by for being-a so devious.”
Up above on the roof, Luigi was on lookout. Bowser was not going to take them by surprise again under his watch. Nothing seemed suspicious in the skies at the moment, but that didn’t mean that Bowser wasn’t planning something. Bowser was always planning something. Earlier Luigi had spotted Wario a short distance off, but he just sat on a bench and took out his DS, probably to play his new game. Luigi could never tell with Wario what his intentions were, but he would treat everyone with suspicion until they proved their trust. So long as Wario stayed where he was, Luigi wouldn’t bother him, but if he moved any closer, Luigi would tell Mario. Mario would know better what to do with Wario, they knew each other better.
Luigi was looking through his binoculars at Wario, checking up on him again. Wario was playing his game and took a moment to pick his nose. Luigi was about to look away when Wario looked right at him. How did he know that Luigi was watching? Wario smiled his creepy grin and pointed up. Luigi looked up and nearly jumped out of his skin. Bowser’s warship was right there. Where had it come from, Luigi should have seen it coming.
“Maaaaaaaaarioooooooo!”
Mario looked up to the roof where Luigi was freaking out and turned to see the warship. How could it have gotten so close without anyone noticing? Usually all of the toads would be freaking out and running for the castle. Bowser must have cloaked it somehow.
“Get-a behind me Princess,” Mario said.
“No, I can help,” Peach said.
“Mario!” Bowser’s voice echoed from his ship. “Hand over the princess now!”
Mario sighed. “How many times must we go through this Bowser? Even if you somehow manage to take the princess, I’ll still rescue her!”
“This time is different Mario! I have a new ally!” Bowser said.
“How-a many times have-a you said that Bowser? You always insist that its-a different this time, and it-a always ends up the same,” Mario said.
“Ah ha ha ha!”
Mario recognized that laugh. He turned his attention from the warship and saw Wario rushing towards him on his motorcycle. Wario jumped off and let the bike run into the castle wall, landing before Mario.
“Wario, what are you doing? You’ve-a sided with Bowser?” Mario asked.
Wario shrugged and rubbed his fingers together. “He paid you to help him did he? He’ll-a double cross you Wario, you know he will,” Mario said.
Wario shrugged again and tackled Mario. Mario got out his cape and swiped it, turning Wario around. “Do you really want-a to do this?” Mario said.
Wario answered by swinging a punch. Mario dodged out of the way and called for Luigi. “Luigi! We-a need your help!”
Luigi was always a bit more difficult to motivate than Mario was. Luigi was perfectly okay with hiding on the roof shivering. “Luigi!” came the princess’s voice. Luigi still shivered.
“Bwa ha ha! That’s right, uh, green stache, quiver and quake, you’d only get in your brother’s way!” Bowser said from his warship.
Green stache? After all this time that oversized turtle still couldn’t remember his name? He could always remember Mario’s name. Luigi had been there since the beginning helping Mario, but Bowser still couldn’t remember his name?
Luigi jumped from his hiding place and higher onto the roof. Once he was high enough he crouched down and charged. He aimed himself at Bowser’s warship. Luigi liked this attack, but sometimes it backfired and he overshot. It was rare, but when it happened he went way farther than intended. It should be fine so long as he aimed well. Luigi released the energy, and instead of going just far enough to grab hold of the Warship’s rails, Luigi exploded and he shot past the warship and disappeared into the horizon.
Peach sighed as she saw Luigi fly off. At least he had tried to help. “Wonderful! Now nothing stands between you and me princess!” Bowser said.
Bowser jumped from his warship and landed with a thud near Peach. Peach tried backing away, but tripped over a vegetable. “Don’t try and resist Peach, you’re mine now!” Bowser said.
Peach remembered a dream she had had a long time ago. It was an odd dream, but since she had it, many things that were in it started appearing around mushroom kingdom, like bob-ombs and shy guys. Vegetables were a key part of her dream, key because they were used as weapons. Peach pulled the turnip from the ground and threw it at Bowser. Bowser hardly flinched. So much for her dream.
“Trying to fight me are you princess?” Bowser asked, sounding amused. “Go ahead, this should be fun.”
Mario started spinning in the air, and his spinning kick hit Wario. Wario landed a few feet away on his feet and motioned for Mario to come with his finger. Mario started running for Wario, but before Mario could do anything, Wario opened his mouth wide, and bit down on Mario. Mario found himself headfirst in Wario’s mouth. The sheer smell was enough to bring tears to his eyes, but then Wario started grinding his teeth.
Wario finally spit Mario out. “Wario, you never cease to disgust me,” Mario said.
Wario looked over to Bowser and Peach and was surprised by what he saw. Peach was holding her own. His instructions had been to stall Mario long enough for Bowser to capture the princess, and he had been told that this would take mere seconds. His job should have finished by now, blast it. Wario turned to look at Mario again and found Mario’s fist at his chin, following him up through the air. Wario lost a few coins the hit was so hard.
Bowser inched closer to Peach, and Peach continued to throw turnips at him. Oddly enough, the turnips had faces. Bowser pretended like it didn’t hurt, and it really didn’t all that much, but after being by enough of them he was starting to get a bump where they hit. Peach threw another, Bowser was tired of this, so he opened his mouth and flames erupted from it, reducing the turnip to ashes. “Just give up Princess, you can’t wi-”
Peach and taken advantage of Bowser’s distraction to float just above the ground in order to kick Bowser several times from above. She knew those hurt, her high heels were made out of tough stuff. Bowser hadn’t expected it, and so Peach continued her assault. After landing, she twisted and thrust her hip at Bowser. Bowser staggered back, still shocked. Peach ran at him and put her arms in front of her and pushed him to the ground.
Peach backed up as Bowser got up. “I see Mario has been busy teaching you a thing or two. I guess that I’ll have to try this time.”
Bowser’s claws were very sharp and Peach suddenly found them heading right for her. Bowser had never actually hurt her before, but then again, she had never given him a reason too. “Princess no!” A toad screamed, jumping in front of the princess.
Bowser’s claws hit the toad, and the toad released spores upon impact. Bowser staggered away, the spores getting in his eyes and mouth. The toad slumped to the ground. The Princess tried to help it, she was good at healing things, but before she had a chance Bowser had recovered. “A brave fool, but now I’m taking you princ-”
Bowser was interrupted by a several kicks to his back. He turned and saw a Yoshi facing him, looking ready to fight. Bowser laughed out loud. “A yoshi? Is this your last line of defense Mario?”
The yoshi answered by throwing an egg at Bowser’s face, which exploded on impact. The yoshi then turned itself into a very large egg and collided with Bowser, knocking him down. The yoshi turned its egg and ran over Bowser again, and then again. Bowser got up and threw his whole weight into the egg, using his skull as the contact point, and smashed the egg, exposing the yoshi. The yoshi didn’t stop though as Bowser hoped and jumped to the air above Bowser and came crashing down.
Bowser had had enough. He charged at the yoshi, but something made him stop. There as something wrong with the air. Everyone else noticed as well. All fighting stopped and everyone looked around, seeking what it was that had disturbed them.
The very air rippled. Mario felt his chest go tight as the ripple passed through him. Mario looked to the sky where it seemed like the ripple had come from. More ripples were coming from a central point up in the air. It looked like a pond that had a steady drip hitting it. Then it cracked. There was an earth shattering sound like glass breaking and cracks replaced the ripples in the sky. The sky then broke away, being sucked into the hole that appeared. The hole in the sky started sucking everyone in. Peach was the first to leave the ground, followed by Mario and Wario. The yoshi had its tongue on the ground, holding it in place, but eventually its tongue gave out and the yoshi flew into the whole. Bowser, the heaviest of those present was clutching the ground, not willing to give in. Finally the ground that he was holding broke away and he was sucked into the hole.
So here it is. It probably has a bunch of typos as I've not had an opportunity to edit yet. Any requests for the next series represented?
VICTORY!
Yes, you read that right, unless you haven't read it yet. I'll wait.
...
It really shouldn't take this long to read a little picture.
:P
Yes, I won NaNoWriMo and surpassed 50,000 words early this morning. Happiness and excitment were my guests as I crossed the finish line and they greeted me with bear hugs. I still need to finish the novel itself, but hopefully that won't take much longer. I also need to do the minor edits to remove the typos, but should anyone want to read it, I'll be happy to send it too you so long as I know who you are. ^_^
Oh, I thought I'd mention, my novel made my mom cry. It was late and she was tired, but she still cried. This was a great boost to my self esteem.
Oh, wait, I needs a youtube, no winner post is complete without a youtube.
Skies of Fire Chapter 1
So NaNoWriMo is well under way and I'm already 10000 words in :D
Here is the first chapter. I would love to know what you think. Unless you think negative thoughts about it, then I wouldn't love to know those thoughts, though constructive critisism would be appreciated if that is the case.
Chapter 1
David stifled a yawn as best as he could. He really didn’t want to get in trouble for sleeping in class again, especially with his Prophecy professor, whom he was already on bad terms with. Trying hard not to fall asleep and at the same time not pay attention to the lesson, David started looking around the classroom for some form of entertainment. As they usually did, David’s eyes rested on Rachel, who somehow looked completely enthralled by the lesson. That was most likely because her parents were Prophecy priests of the highest order and their love for the Prophecy had probably rubbed off on her.
David couldn’t understand how anyone could be entertained or ever learn anything new in a class that they had been required to take since they first started school nine years ago that was all about one small and very vague paragraph. Of course, if David ever expressed these thoughts out loud he would be called a blasphemer and sent to prison for a minimum of ten years. David hoped to avoid this, though sometimes keeping his mouth shut was hard work.
Somehow Rachel was so interested that she was keeping notes on what the professor was saying. As fun as she was to look at, sometimes her blind faith in a paragraph got depressing, so David turned his eyes to look at others. Ian was the next person that David’s eyes stopped. At least Ian looked appropriately bored, though not as bored as David felt. David turned a little and his eyes fell on Nicolas who had his hand on his chin looking like he was pondering something; probably what was being said as his parents were also important in the Church of the Prophecy, though not as important as Rachel’s parents.
“Now class, if we will all rise so that we may recite the Prophecy,” the professor said.
David had an intense desire to groan out load, but, again, he’d prefer not to go to prison, so he stood with the rest of the class and dutifully recited with the rest of them.
“When the skies burn as if on fire, the battle to determine the fate of the world will scream across the earth. Three noble warriors who will be known and loved by all will come forth to fight the battle, yet should they choose not to fight, the world will be torn asunder and all will be lost.”
They all sat out of respect for the Prophecy and then stood again to leave the class. The only good thing about the Prophecy class was that it eventually ended, and after it ended, David’s favorite class began; weapons training. Even if the description of the class bothered him,” to train all young students in the art of weapons in case one of them will have a part in the battle to determine the fate of the world,” he felt that it had a lot of practical value and that it was needed. Recently bandits had been raiding nearby villages, and the more people who could defend themselves, the better.
David’s weapon was the sword. Last year he had advanced far enough in his training to own a sword of his own and permission to carry it at all times. This was a big deal. There were only sixteen other people in the village that could do that and he was the youngest. His instructor had told him that he was an excellent swordsman, but that there would always be someone better. This was his way of telling him to work harder.
There was a bigger group in the sword room than usual today. That usually meant that they would be sparring with another group. David noticed that Rachel was in the room, which meant that the swords would be sparring with the spears today.
David tried to push himself over to Rachel. He heard the instructors order to find a partner and he intended to partner with Rachel, yet before he got to her Nicolas was there and speaking to her. David didn’t know why he even tried anymore. It was so obvious that Rachel was out of his league. She was the highest born person in their village, the second being Nicolas, and he was just an orphan that nobody wanted.
David turned to find another sparring partner when he felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned to see Rachel looking at him expectantly. She smiled and said, “I told Nicolas that I had promised you that I would be your partner today.”
And yet times like this when she would go out of her way to talk to him gave him hope that somehow she would choose him over Nicolas. It was a dangerous hope, and one that would likely end crushed, yet he couldn’t help himself.
David was privileged to own a sword, but that didn’t mean that Rachel would be an easy opponent. She had her own spear just like David had his own sword. “So, a minor swordmaster verses a minor spearmaster,” Rachel said. “One would consider it an even match yes?”
“An untrained eye would, but they would fail to consider that the spear has a much longer range than the sword,” David said.
“Is that what you’ll tell them when you lose?” Rachel asked.
“No, I just want you to know that I beat you at a disadvantage,” David said.
Both of them launched their attacks at the same time and metal clashed in the practice room. Both of them being minor masters also gave them the privilege of sparring with their actual weapons instead of using the wooden practice versions. They would have broken them anyway. With her range advantage, Rachel was on the offensive, yet David was able to block all her blows and counter appropriately.
One by one all through the room, matches were being decided yet David and Rachel continued to fight, neither giving in. Soon a crowd formed around them as people watched their battle. Blow for blow they dueled, as this couldn’t be called a simple spar anymore, neither letting up, neither gaining any ground. Rachel smiled as their blades brought them close together. “Getting tired yet David?”
“I could go on all day,” David said as he continued to assault.
“That is quite enough of that, the class will end within five minutes, please cease your duel,” one of the instructors said.
Though David had said that he could continue, he was glad to stop, he wasn’t actually sure how much longer he could go on. He was pretty sure that Rachel had been about to win, but he wasn’t going to let her know that.
“Since we didn’t have the opportunity to teach you much today, I hope that you all at least observed the duel between the two minors and tried to learn from their superb technique. Class is dismissed, you may now return to your homes, until tomorrow,” the instructor said.
David sheathed his sword and Rachel put her spear across her back. “Was it me, or was I gaining the advantage there at the end?” Rachel said.
“Funny, I was about to say the same thing,” David said.
“I’m sure you were,” Rachel said as she walked away.
David walked home in high spirits. Ian, who always walked part of the way home with him noticed. “What’s got you so happy?”
“I dueled with Rachel today,” David said.
“And you won?” Ian asked.
“It was a draw,” David said.
“Oh, so what you’re really happy about is that you managed to talk to her,” Ian said.
“Well yeah,” David said.
Ian laughed out loud at that. “Well you certainly are easy to please!”
They went their separate ways there, Ian to his house that was almost a mansion and David to his shack. There was a time when David would sigh every time he saw his shack, but now he was happy to see it. He didn’t really think he could manage living in such a large home as most of the others did, he wouldn’t know what to do with all that space. His shack was the perfect size. Sure, it leaked when it rained and was very cold when it got cold, but that was what pots and blankets were for.
It was one room, but needing a room for every task seemed wasteful. He didn’t really have a bed, just an old mattress really, but at least it was comfortable. To others in the village, David’s shack was a horrible little place, but to David, it was home, it was the only home he ever knew.
That night David fell asleep thinking back to when he was found. It was the first thing he could remember. He had been about five years old and he was crying in a street corner of one of the larger cities. A girl about his age tapped him on the shoulder and asked him why he had been crying. His response had been that he couldn’t remember, all that he knew was that he was sad. The girl told him to wait there, that she would be right back. She brought her parents and showed them “the poor crying boy.” They asked him if he had any parents. He said that he didn’t, that they had been killed. The girl’s parents talked amongst themselves for a few moments before deciding to take David back with them to their village where he would have a better life. That was probably why David cared so much for Rachel; she had saved him from a life on the streets and had given him a home.
All the necessary orphan paperwork was filed, but David knew that by now nobody was going to come and adopt him. He doubted that anyone had ever seen them after they left the village. Orphan paperwork was given an urgency rating of zero, meaning his papers would forever stay at the bottom of the paperwork pile. David didn’t mind anymore, being adopted would mean that he would have to be taken away from here, and Rachel was here. As usual, David’s thoughts upon falling asleep were centered on Rachel.
So yeah, not much happened really in the first chapter, but all the key characters were introduced save maybe one. Many things happen in the next chapter, but you will have to wait until I finish.
Skies of Fire
So I decided to do the Skies of Fire one after giving it some thought. I finally thought up a plot for it after telling myself that the skies being on fire didn't have to happen in the beginning. So far I have a basic idea of about three characters, the culture of the world it happens in, and perhaps the government. Oh, and though it is cliche, I also have a prophecy in it, that goes as follows:
When the skies burn as if on fire the battle to determine the fate of the world will scream across the earth. Three noble warriors who will be known and loved by all will come forth to fight the battle, yet should they choose not to fight, the world will be torn asunder and all will be lost.
I'm still not sure about a lot of things, but that is what insomnia is for. While I am calling it skies of Fire, that is only a working title, and once more of the plot happens, I will perhaps give it a better title.
It's Almost November!
You know what that means right? It means that it's almost time for National Novel Writing Month or NaNoWriMo for short!
If you don't know, let me explain. NaNoWriMo is where all November long you are striving to pump out a 50,000 word novel. For nerds like me, it is great fun. For more information, check out http://www.nanowrimo.org/.
Last year I wrote The True Story of Roswell, New Mexico (A Blatant Fiction). I had been planning it for months before NaNoWriMo and so last year was a success. This year is different. I still am unsure of what to write.
There are a few ideas, but I'm not sure which to choose or if any of them will be able to produce 50,000 words. They are as follows:
A Super Smash Brothers Brawl fanfic. I've wanted to do one for a while now, and NaNoWriMo would be the perfect opportunity and would pretty much ensure that I would finish, but I'm not sure how it would turn out.
Night Guardian. A knight who guards the castle of some kingdom by night with his special abilities to travel by shadow. This is just something I think about as I lay down trying to fall asleep. I'm not sure how plot worthy it is.
Skies on fire. I can't remember where this idea stemmed from, but basically I have an image of the skies on fire and a worried people looking up at the fire knowing that terrible things are coming. But see, that's all that this idea has going for it so far. At least the other idea's have plot bunnies, this is just a picture in my head. But its a picture that I sooooo want to write out and give a story too. I'm, just stumped as to what the story should be.
I also kind of want to write something with dragons. But then again, I always want to write something with dragons.
So what think ye? Any input?
I also fiddled around with the layout colors to make them less depressing. I don't know what I was thinking with the previous colors really. Any input on this would also be appreciated.
Curse me for liking that idea!
So I was going over my new notes, which are coming along better than expected, for Dragon Knights and I found a plot hole to fill. I will not explain that plot hole as it gives away to many spoilers, but as I was typing away letting my mind run onto Microsoft Word I got an idea on how to fill this plot hole. I immediately rejected it as I did not want something to horrible to happen to one of my favorite characters and to all characters in general. But somehow, despite the fact that I had let that idea go, it continued to rattle around in my brain and wouldn't leave until I considered it. Why did I have to consider it?
I like this idea. It would add a lot to the story, and by a lot I mean a lot of sadness and grief and terrible things. I think that after I get to the part in the story where this idea comes into play all of my characters are going to hate me. Curse me for liking that idea!
Flash Drive Status
I went to several different sources and none could fix my flash drive. I even tried geek squad. I felt sure that a group with a name as cool as that could do something, yet my hopes were dashed. Still, not everything is lost (though a very big chunk of everything is missing), I have the stuff that I blogged here, and I also have a back up version of my nano novel that I emailed to myself while I was writing it (since they constantly reminded us to), though it didn't have as much in it as the one in my flash drive did.
So despite losing a lot of my work (and a whole lot of other stuff that had nothing to do with my writing but was still a stab to loose) I will not be deterred. I will keep writing, even if I must start again!
Yet still it is difficult not to be disheartened. Not only did I lose my actual stories, but I lost the plans for them. I didn't have much planning for Final Great Ones or Roswell, but I had pages and pages of plans for Terravia. They weren't so much story outlines (since I seem to be incapable of planning more than four steps ahead) as it was random details that I wrote down because I was sure that I would forget if I didn't. I had random stuff like a plan for the main characters father and more detailed back story for all the knights and a bunch of stuff that I can't remember! Some of the things were written here, but not all of it because I didn't want to spoil it for any of you.
Hopefully I can remember enough to make the story come together again. I'll rewrite all I can remember and all that I put into this blog, and hopefully it will all work out in the end. No, it WILL work out in the end. Whats with this hopefully stuff? Hope is not a plan, but an excuse for procrastination! Maybe thats why I like it so much...
Everything is gone
I just found my flashdrive broken in two pieces with one peice still in the computer. It looks as if someone stepped on it while getting up from the computer and then decided not to tell me about it, hoping that I wouldn't notice. I did. Everything that I had been working on is gone. EVERYTHING! I don't think I've ever felt so horribly helpless!
There might be hope. One of my computer savy friends is coming over to look at it to see if we can save the data on it. I'll let you know as soon as I know.
Be Gone Plot Holes!
So last night when I couldn't sleep my mind was racing about my Dragon Story. One thing that came from the races was that I think for now the title will be The Dragon Knights of Terravia.
Another thing that that raced to the finish was the origin of magic. This was huge since my magic post left something to be desired.
Near the beginning of time, two great being used their great powers to create what is known now as magic. The first who is now known only as the Great One created magic in order to further benefit all races. He gave it to the races that were wise and powerful, this did not include humans. The second made his magic so that all could use it if they tried hard enough and he made it more powerful than the Great Ones. His magic had a taint however. All who used it slowly lost themselves and became slaves to his will. When this was discovered, his magic was called forbidden and he was banished to a rift in the dimensions. His name was erased and he became known as the Nameless One. In order to keep him there, they altered his form and made it so that he couldn't breathe the clear and pure air of this world. Yet his magic was still practiced in some places in the world...
This also filled the biggest plot hole of them all, but that would give away to many spoilers, so I won't indulge so much of that. The above might be pretty bad spoilers but it shouldn't ruin the story for you if you ever happen to read it.
There were a few more things that I discovered about my story as I couldn't sleep last night, such as another race and character, but again, to many spoilers.
The one big hole that isn't really a plot hole is the name of the world that this all takes place in. I still don't know what its called yet, but as I was writing this I came up with an idea, and I'll try it out for a while to see if I like it.
This was a momentous occasion. I got so excited after writing this. For the first time I felt that this might just work out and that I can do this. Happiness all around.
Mages and their Magic
In my unnamed world, along with all the creatures, there are also mages, more specifically, Mage Knights. Mage Knights all know some type of magic, and some are better than others at it, and they all are trained in battle.
Mage Knights all obtain their magic in different ways. Humans are not magical creatures by nature, so every Mage Knight has had some sort of even happen to them that gave them their magical abilities.
Because they are also knights, the Mage Knights must train themselves in a certain weapon. Staffs are not considered weapons among the Mage Knights, so if a Mages magic power is intensified by a staff they will craft their staff into a spear.
Anything that cannot be explained is called magic. A dragons breath attack, the Phoenix's fire, and the behemoths curse are all known as a type of magic. If something odd happens, it is common to hear people say, "It must be magic." Since the Mage Knights use magic the most, they are the most knowledgeable about magic, and have sorted magic into five categories. Some magic can fall into more than one category.
Battle: Magic that helps in battle, such as throwing fireballs, or putting up a magical shield.
Restorative: Magic that heals or rejuvenates. This type of magic will heal a wounded soldier or give a man more energy to do his tasks.
Practical: Magic that has practical uses. This includes levitating things, making a pie appear from thin air (very popular), or gaining the ability to fly.
Useless: This is magic that really doesn’t have much use. Magic in this category includes making a flatulent sound, making little sparks, and glowing.
Forbidden: This type of magic is very rare and is at its base very evil. One of the duties of a mage knight is to find those that practice forbidden magic and arrest them. Forbidden magic is used to torture, kill, and bring great harm to others in a cruel way.
Mythological Creatures
There are three more mythological creatures that are present in my fantasy world that still remains nameless. The Phoenix, the Behemoth, and the Leviathan.
A Phoenix is a great bird with many mystical abilities. As it flies it catches fire and it rains that fire down upon all below it. The fire it rains affects those it touches differently. If an enemy of a Phoenix touches the fire from a Phoenix he will burn, but if a friend of the Phoenix touches it he will be healed of any malady. When meeting a new person, a Phoenix will throw fire at the person to judge his character. If the newcomer is rejuvenated then the Phoenix would welcome him, but if he was burned then the newcomer would be chased away.
A Phoenix, upon death, will burst into flames. From its ashes it will be reborn will all its memories of its former lives. Thus a Phoenix will have two ages, the first being from the time it was first born, the second being how long it has been since its last rebirth.
~
A Behemoth is a cursed being, believed to have once been dragons stripped of their wings. They are similar to Drake Dragons in every way except for their lack of wings and their heads. Where a Drake's head comes above its body, a Behemoth's head is even with its body. The horns on a Behemoth's head are also different in that they aren't always symmetrical.
Behemoths have great power, but are unable to use it due to their curse. Their curse causes them to be submissive and timid. This timidness has only been strengthened because of the persecution they have suffered for their curse. Most other races will treat the Behemoth lowly because they are cursed, even when they themselves don't understand why they are cursed or what the curse is. Behemoths are incredibly loyal to anyone who shows them compassion.
~
Leviathans are great serpents of the sea. It was once believed that they were a sub species of the Snake Dragons, but both the Snake Dragons and the Leviathans disagree. Leviathans guard the sea and will protect any ship that travels on it if the captain is brave enough to ask for protection from the unknown horrors of the sea.
Leviathans can float a short distance above the water in order to do a devastating attack. A Leviathan will burst from the water in a flashy way and charge its intended target. Following behind the Leviathan is a great tsunami that is used to overwhelm any foes.
~
Those are some the creatures that inhabit my fantasy world. There are a few others, but they are still just ideas that need to take shape. There is one more important group that is related to all these myths, and they will be my next blogging subject.
Of Dragons
Dragons are my favorite mythological creature, and if you haven't figured that out yet, then you haven't been paying attention at all. One great thing about writing about dragons is that they can be almost anything. There are so many different stories about dragons and in each one the dragons are always a little different. In some stories they can speak, in others only a choice few can breath fire, and so on. Thus, I have mostly determined what the dragons in my story will be like and wish to show you now.
There are three different types of dragons. There are the Snake, the Drake, and the Wyvern.
The Snake dragon is basically a Chinese dragon, but there is no China in my fictional world (that doesn't have a name yet) so I called them Snakes. These dragons are very long with four legs and have no wings, yet are superior in the air compared to the other two. Most Snake dragons have a venomous bite and some can spit poison. Those that don't are considered inferior.
The Drake and Wyvern are very similar. Some consider the Wyvern to be a sub-species to the Drake. Drakes are traditional Dragons. They are massive, stand on four legs, and have enormous wingspans. Wyverns have only two legs and what would be their front legs are instead wings that they can use to help them stand when on the ground. Drakes and Wyverns usually have an elemental breath, with the most common being fire, though there are also some that can breath ice, electricity, wind, light, and darkness. Then there is a superior ability that very few have and that is to shoot pure energy from their mouths in a devastating attack. If any Drake or Wyvern does not have any of these abilities they are considered inferior.
There are rumors that there is a fourth type of Dragon, though most don't beleive it.
Dragons are not the only mythological creatures in my story, and you can look forward to a post describing the others later on.
My Author Website
All Authors should have a website, so I did just that. It will be something like a brother site to this one and it'll be great.
http://josephlaterry.webs.com/
On a side note, both the comments that I got from the Tell Me What To Write post were about cats, ironic since it was a cat being on my lap that made me post it in the first place. When I do write from the suggestions, I'll combine them. If you haven't yet, feel free to leave a comment there.
Tell me what to write
I'm bored and my current projects aren't singing to me at the moment (mostly because there is a cat in my lap and to get to my projects I would have to remove said cat, an obvious crime to cat kind, and then go upstairs and find my flash drive.) So I have a request. Leave a comment on this blog that could be the opening of a book or story. It can be a sentence or it can be a page, just put something there and I'll see what I can make of it.
This blog was made for my writing, whether it be about what I'm currently writing or helping me get better at it through practices such as this. Since I don't expect many comments, I'll try and make something out of every comment here. Of course, if every comment were to become a novel, that might take a while, so don't expect results right away (especially with my lazy attitude).
Looking forward to your beginnings. Who knows, you might help write a best selling novel (because I am so totally going to become a best seller, just you wait.)
Dragon Story- Tray sees the list
More from my dragon story. The third character Tray is going to see the list now, and this will probably mark the end to chapter 1.
Tray was nervous. He had heard that a messenger was bringing a copy of the Dragon Knight List to his village, and that meant that someone from his village had made it. Tray knew of at least three others who had tried, but he didn’t know them very well so he didn’t know how he compared to them.
It had spread very fast that the list was coming. The whole village was buzzing with the news. The only one who didn’t seem excited was Tray’s mother. She never spoke about it, but Tray had been told by some of the other villagers that she had been on the list once but had never made it. When Tray asked her about she changed the subject. He never brought it up again, but when the try-outs were announced for the list he felt that he might have a chance since his mother had made it once before. Now that news of the list had spread across the village he had seen a change in his mother. Her temper had gotten shorter and Tray could tell that something was worrying her. Tray hoped that he had made the right decision in trying out. He didn’t know how his mother would react if he got in.
Tray was waiting near the mail house. If the list really was coming, this is where it would be posted. He felt silly just standing outside the mail house doing nothing. He could feel the disapproving looks from some of the older villagers. They probably thought that he was slacking his work, and in truth he was, but he felt too anxious to get anything done. Once he saw the list he would be able to finish his chores, he just didn’t know when the list would get here, if at all.
“Oy lookit, its Tray!”
Tray turned and saw three other boys heading towards him. As they drew closer he could tell that they were the other three who had tried out for the list. They didn’t look happy to see him.
“What, you waiting for the list to get ‘ere?” one of them said.
Tray timidly nodded, which caused the other three to burst out laughing. “Oh please, you ain’t on the list, no way you could ever get on it! If anyone from ‘ere is on the list, it’ll be one of us!” the biggest one said putting his hands on the shoulders of his two friends.
Tray looked to the ground and didn’t say anything. He already felt defeated. All three of them were bigger than he was and probably a lot stronger. There was no way that he got in if those three were his competition.
“Tha’s right, you c’n just go on home to your mummy ‘n cry Tray,” the big one said and he probably would have kept on going if it weren’t for the sound of hooves.
Tray turned and saw a messenger coming toward the village. The Messenger was riding an enormous horse and was wearing a blue uniform. Tray had never seen a messenger before, but he had heard that they were a grand sight to behold. He could see that the stories were right. The messenger’s uniform probably cost more than the whole village did. It had gold on the shoulders and for the buttons and there were medals covering the man’s chest. The messenger himself was an older looking man, but had a very stern face. Tray was suddenly keenly aware of his poverty when standing near this man.
The messenger looked at the four boys and huffed at them before dismounting. He looked around at the village with contempt as he took a piece of paper from a pouch on his waist. He unrolled it and stuck it to the wall and started muttering something under his breath.
Tray was still staring after the messenger when he was pushed down by the other boys. They walked off before Tray even knew what had happened. They didn’t look happy as they left.
Tray picked himself up and went to the list. The other three boys had obviously not made it, so Tray didn’t have much hope for himself. The list had some of the fanciest handwriting on it he had ever seen.
The following individuals have been tested and found worthy to be trained as a Royal Knight under the Order of Dragons.
Tray skimmed through the names on the list, his heart dropping farther and farther as he read. He didn’t see his name there anywhere. All the other names sounded so fancy, and they all had at least two. Finally, Tray saw the last name on the list.
Tray, Son of Delilah
Tray’s breath caught in his throat. He made the list! He was the reason that the messenger had come! He was why the town was so excited! He read the rest of it.
The above named shall report to the castle of His Royal Majesty, King Ignatius, two weeks after the posting of this list.
Those unable to afford such a journey should send a special request to the castle.
Tray didn’t know what a special request was, but a few moments in the mail house would probably solve that. This was so incredible! Tray didn’t think he had ever felt this excited before. He wanted to jump and scream, but then a thought stopped him. What would he tell his mother? He needed to tell her soon, it would be all over the village in a matter of hours, and she wouldn’t appreciate hearing it from someone else. Tray couldn’t imagine her being happy about the news.
More on my Dragon Story
I had such incredible writers block for "The Final Great Ones" and I heard that writing something else can help, so I started writing my dragon story (that still doesn't have a title). This is a different and longer version of those three paragraphs from so long ago.
The night was dark and quiet, most people having already gone to sleep. If one were to listen closely they would hear the soft footsteps of a young man walking slowly through the town. At random intervals, the young man again became visible as the moon stole away from the clouds covering it, but that was always brief. The young man didn’t stop until he came by a list posted on the wall of a building that he was going by. This list was posted all over the city, the young man reasoned; it was happenstance that I should pass by this one.
He couldn’t help but smile as he saw his name at the top of the list.
Jason Claudius
He had already known that his name was there, but it felt good to see it just the same. There had been a crowd of people at each of these lists earlier in the day after they had been posted, hundreds of young men and women trying to see the list, wanting to see if they had been chosen. Jason had been watching them with scorn, how could they expect to succeed with such poor patience. He had heard many of them shouting when they found their names on the list, and Jason had taken special note of each who had made it, scrutinizing them, weighing them. None that he had seen would present any challenge for him, he was sure of it. Jason had to smile when the people in the crowd had read aloud his name and asked if anyone knew who he was. Of course they would recognize his last name, but none would know of him. Even if his parents were known by all, it didn’t mean he was. He wasn’t foolhardy enough to show himself to those who were likely to make it on the list, possibly exposing a weakness that could be taken advantage of in a dire situation. He could see that he needn’t have worried.
Jason was about to leave the list and head home when he saw who was directly below his name on the list. It wasn’t surprising really, that she had made it so high up on the list with her skill, what was surprising was that she had even attempted to make it on the list in the first place. He hadn’t expected that. She was probably the only person who knew of his weaknesses, probably better than he did. If she wanted to, she could be a great threat to him, but that wouldn’t be a problem. Jason knew her as well as she knew him, or he thought that he did. He never would have expected her to sign up for this. He sighed to himself. She had the skill, but he felt like she wasn’t cut out for it. She would be a problem only because he would have to look out for her.
Jason continued his silent walk through the town, satisfied with what he saw. He had been waiting for this his whole life. It felt surreal to finally see his name on the list. His training would start in just a few weeks. The wait would be agonizing, but worth it. Nothing was going to stop him now.
~
Serena dreaded her walk, because she knew where she was headed. Yesterday, the list had been posted on just about every willing wall in town. She couldn’t bear to check it. She had made every excuse to stay inside. She hadn’t told her parents that she had tried out for the list. If she had, they would have insisted on checking it the moment it was known to be out. Instead she had waited until all of the clamor had died down. Nobody would be checking the lists anymore a day after they had been posted, so she would be able to do it with no one around.
It wasn’t that she was afraid that she wasn’t going to be on the list, she hoped that somehow she hadn’t made it really, she was afraid of how high on the list she would be. She had heard stories of how dangerous it was to take part in this training. Many don’t make it, and some have even died. The whole thing is taken so seriously by the participants that some will do anything to make the final cut. Serena did not want to make the final cut, but that would disgrace her family for generations. She didn’t have to worry if she wasn’t on the list, but she knew that she probably was. She didn’t thing that she could handle all of the horrible things she was likely to face. The training wouldn’t be a problem; it would be those training with her. They would be cruel and unforgiving, and she didn’t want to put herself in that kind of environment.
She finally stopped walking and looked at the list that was on the wall.
The following individuals have been tested and found worthy to be trained as a Royal Knight under the Order of Dragons.
Jason Claudius
Serena Lucetta
She was second! Serena felt her heart drop and her stomach fill with butterflies. A normal person would love being second. The list goes in order of skill shown with the tests. But it also meant that she would be a target for all those hoping to make it to the top. She would have to defend herself from all sorts of people aiming to hurt her in all kinds of ways. Serena wasn’t sure she would be able to.
The only hope she felt upon seeing the list was that Jason was just above her. Jason was one of her best friends, and she was pretty sure that she was his only friend. She knew that he would be surprised to see her on the list, but maybe he could help her. There would be many people who would try and deceive or hurt her, and she felt like Jason would try and protect her, though he would deny it outright. Maybe this wouldn’t be as bad as she thought.
Serena read the instructions on the bottom of the list.
The above named shall report to the castle of His Royal Majesty, King Ignatius, two weeks after the posting of this list.
Serena was not looking forward to this in the least, but at least Jason would be there. Jason wasn’t always easy to be around, but Serena felt like he genuinely cared for her. He wouldn’t stand by and let someone hurt her or cheat her. She needed a friend more than anything with what she was about to go through.
It wouldn't let me center just a part of it without centering the whole thing, so pretend that the list is centered. I would have written more, but I was tired.
The History of the Dragons.
I just finished Brisingr and I felt compelled to write. You may recall the post where I wrote three paragraphs about some young man who was checking a list. Well, I have given it a lot of thought, and I have some characters and some of the history of the world it takes place in. After finishing Brisingr, I wrote this.
Jason sighed at sat down on the table again. “The history of dragons is a long one, as is any history, so please don’t interrupt. I don’t care if you have any questions, save them for later. It is said that near the beginning of time, Dragons were the first species to have any intelligent thought. Of course, that is contended far and wide, but it doesn’t matter. The dragons started out savage, the most of any race. They would have destroyed themselves if it weren’t for Bahamut.
Bahamut was the greatest of dragons. He was one of the first, and was very old, and very wise. He saw that the dragons would end up killing themselves if something wasn’t done, so he set up laws for the dragons to follow. Many dragons didn’t like that he had proclaimed himself their lawmaker, but none could contest with Bahamut, for he was the most powerful of any dragon, even at his age. It took time, but Bahamut eventually was able to calm the dragons. They were still fierce beings not to be trifled with, but they had stopped killing one another and other intelligent beings. You wouldn’t be able to say that they were civilized, they still loved to fight, but they were much better than they were.
Bahamut ruled as the king of the dragons for a long time. Some say that because of his wisdom, he was blessed with a substantially long life, others think that his tales of greatness are exaggerated in dragon history, but every person who has successfully become a dragon knows, or so my parents have told me, that he was the greatest dragon who ever lived, and that he lived a long time. I could go on and on about his great exploits, but I won’t. There are too many things to say, and I would not be able to do him justice. When he realized that he was soon going to die, he needed to find a dragon to take his place. He held a great tournament among the dragons to find one who was worthy to rule the dragons in his stead, but he found none. He had many children, and they all went to their father asking for him to give the thrown to them, but he refused. He realized that he had spoiled his children, and that none of them would be able to rule honestly.
Bahamut was beginning to lose hope. He needed to find a replacement before he died, or he feared that there would be a great war among the dragons as they all sought to take the throne, and that the dragons would return to their savage ways.
“Travelling all across the land, he searched for a Dragon worthy of the title of king. Back then, there were many creatures and races, some more mysterious than others. Bahamut went to all intelligent races, hoping that they would be able to help him. Most just cowered at the sight of him, others chased him away, for they remembered the way dragons had once been. Others tried to share with them their wisdom. The phoenixes tried to teach him how to stay alive forever, as they could, but Bahamut was a dragon, and not a phoenix. The centaurs told him to find a group of wise dragons and have them all share the throne. The leviathans mocked him for trying to find one who could control such a species. The few humans who were brave enough to speak with Bahamut, such as King Odin, tried to give him advice, but back then, humans were not as wise as they are now. There were several species that we have lost record of that tried to help Bahamut, but Bahamut never found an answer that satisfied him.
“One species that Bahamut visited, the name of which has been lost to history, had the ability to see into the future. They told Bahamut that dragons were doomed to die out. Bahamut didn’t believe them; he thought them insane, as they seemed to tell that to every species that came to seek advice from them except humans.
Bahamut gave up his search. He found no one and he was nearing his grave. He feared that the ones who could see into the future had been right, that his race was doomed, but then on his journey back to his home, Bahamut met a strange creature.
“Again, we do not know what species the creature was. Many of the old races have been lost. Some believe that this creature was the only one of his kind, because there isn’t any other mention of any other creature like this in all the histories we know of. This creature saw Bahamut and saw his incredible sorrow for all dragons and had a desire to help Bahamut. The powers of this creature must have been great, for the blessings it gave to Bahamut.
“It asked Bahamut, ‘What troubles you great dragon?’ Bahamut replied, ‘I fear that my race is doomed to extinction, and there is nothing I can do about it.’ “I shall help you then, for I do not wish to see the dragons die.’
“The creature blessed the dragons to be an immortal race. That doesn’t mean that that a dragon cannot die, but that they would never die out. He blessed that there would always be dragons on the earth. Bahamut thanked the creature and asked how he could repay him. The creature said that he was not finished. ‘I have one more blessing for you, great Bahamut.’ He blessed Bahamut with enough life to raise another son. He warned him that he would need to raise him right this time, because this would be his last chance. If his new son wasn’t worthy to be a king, then the dragons would still become savage, and his blessing would have become a curse to all species, for the dragons would destroy everything.
Bahamut knew that he needed to this right. He raised his new son away from other dragons. He raised him and loved him. He named him after himself, Bahamut. The day he died, Bahamut named his son, Bahamut the Second to be his successor. Some say that Bahamut the Second was even greater than his father.
“Most history after that is incredibly boring and not very important. Dragons were a proud and great race and helped shape the ancient world, but then something happened. We have no record of exactly what happened, but it must have been great and terrible. Somehow, every race but the humans were wiped out. The immortal race of the Dragons died. The Phoenixes, who were individually immortal, died. All races that had intelligence died, except for us. Humans somehow survived. Whatever catastrophe that happened wiped out so all the races on the earth, but somehow passed over the humans. No history that the humans kept tell of what happened. Most don’t even mention that something happened. The only one that tells that something happened says that for some reason, the other races that have traded with humans stopped showing up. Later it says that they were gone, and that they don’t know why.
“For a long time, humans lived alone. After a time, most forgot about the other races. The ones that did remember them say that they were myths. But they weren’t myths. They had existed. After a time, some humans started showing odd behavior. Some would breathe fire. Others started flying. One day, a man named Stephen came across a mountain lion and had no means to protect himself. As the lion jumped at him, he transformed into a dragon. Dragons were blessed to always be on the earth. Something tried to wipe them out, but they were unsuccessful. The spirits of the long gone dragons couldn’t leave the earth and go into the afterlife, they had to stay, and that was painful for them, so they saw the humans and saw that they were the only ones left and decided to join their spirits with the humans. A body cannot handle two spirits inside it at one time, especially if one is a dragon, without dramatic changes. People who have had the dragons spirits reside in them became the first Dragon Knights. Their children didn’t have dragon spirits go into them, but they could still transform. The ability to turn into a dragon is passed down from the generations. The dragons live on through humans, as was their only choice. The history of the dragons that we know we learned from the first Dragon Knights. They gained all the memories of the dragons that joined with them, except for the memories of how they all died out. We are the descendants of the first Dragon Knights.”
So, what I still don't know is what this great and terrible catastrophe was. I'll come up with something though.
